This was a fun filled and exciting photoshoot for Washington Life Magazine. The assignment was to photograph the Peebles family and their beautiful lavish home. Don Peebles is CEO of the largest black-owned real estate development firm in the US. His assets include 4 star hotels and luxury residential and commercial properties in DC, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Miami Beach. The photos were of him, wife Katrina, and daughter Chloe in their home in DC near Woodley Park Zoo.
With WL Deputy Editor Christina Wilkie and my assistants Leah Appel, Beth Bradley and Martin Fousek we came up with various shots and angles of the family and home. Beth found an instant attachment with Chloe and they and the neighbor's kids had a great time playing games including duck duck goose while the rest of us took pictures. As much as taking the photos of their beautiful house was exciting, it was getting the candid photos of the family and showing their connection that was really endearing - from mom and Chloe holding hands and walking together on the edge of the pool outside to Chloe giving dad a big hug and kiss. As successful and wealthy as people are it always goes back to the basic human feelings, instincts and bond of being a loving warm family.
Don was also generous and gave each of us signed copies of the Peebles Principals, a book written by him about how to be a successful entrepreneur with invaluable tips and teachings. At the end of the day we said our good byes with lots of good memories (and photos). More photos can be seen in Events gallery
